WOCA Hardwax Oil Extreme – How to Use
Before you start: Product, room and floor should be at a temperature of 15–30 °C and around 50 % humidity; wood moisture must not exceed 12 %. Ventilate well because of the drying time and fumes. The floor must be free of dirt, grease, wax and sanding dust – sand previously treated floors back to bare wood with grit 100–120, vacuum thoroughly and, if needed, wipe with a well-wrung, damp cloth. Hardwax Oil Extreme is ready to use straight from the container. Test on a small, inconspicuous area first.
1
Stir well Stir Hardwax Oil Extreme thoroughly before and during use. Mix containers with different batch numbers beforehand to avoid colour variation.
2
Apply the oil Apply the oil straight onto the floor with a buffing machine and spread it out well, working in sections of 5–10 m². Let the oil sit wet on the surface for 5–10 minutes, adding more oil if needed. Note: after about 15–20 minutes, Hardwax Oil Extreme starts to seal the surface.
3
Buff in & remove excess Buff the surface with a white or beige pad until the wood looks saturated. Remove excess oil with clean, lint-free cotton cloths before moving on to the next area. The floor should not look wet afterwards, and no oil should be left on the surface.
4
Let it dry Let the floor dry for 24 hours at 20 °C. Drying time depends on temperature, humidity and the amount applied – lower temperature and/or higher humidity can extend it.
5
Repeat if needed Repeat steps 2–3 if an extra coat, more sheen, or more resistance is desired. On surfaces that were already oiled before, one coat is usually enough.
6
Curing The freshly oiled floor can be walked on carefully the next day and is fully cured after 7 days under normal room conditions. During these first 7 days, do not wet or clean the floor.
Tool cleaning: Clean tools with WOCA Solvent or turpentine.
For already-oiled floors: Usually a single coat is enough. For the best adhesion, lightly sand previously treated floors with a bordeaux pad before applying a coat of Hardwax Oil Extreme. After 7 days, the floor can be cleaned with WOCA Natural Soap or WOCA Oil Refreshing Soap, which also gives the surface extra protection.
